Jim White, a
second generation wildlife artist, learned his artistic skills at an early
age. Instead of carving life-sized birds like his father, Jim
preferred to work in miniatures.
Jim’s
reputation as a wildlife artist grew along with his abilities and finally a
request was made which changed his life forever. The owner of pebble hill
plantation Miss Pansy Poe, hired Jim to create pins for her guests to
keep as souvenirs of their visit to the plantation; a tradition of
most plantation owners.
Miss Pansy
also wanted Jim to live and work there in order to perfect his art work.
After the plantation was opened to the public, Jim was allowed to sell his artwork
in the plantation’s gift shop.
Hunting and
fishing on this historic plantation was a dream come true. Studying the
abundant wildlife in its natural habitat inspired Jim.
Soon he was creating magnificent works of art down to the most minute
detail, with plumage and other characteristics burned into the wooden
originals.
To bring these
replicas to life, they were painted with brilliant acrylic colors As
Jim’s work improved, the demand for his work led him to experiment with castings
made from the originals to add more strength and durability, and now Jim
has perfected his skills and uses a variety of procedures in his work from
cold-cast bronze to pewter layered in 24k gold.
A special
honor was bestowed on Jim when Sporting Clay’s magazine
commissioned him to create the Lifetime Achievement Award for actor
and sporting clay's enthusiast Robert Stack
This award,
which was presented to Mr. Stack at the Casa de Campo Resort in the
Dominican Republic, consisted of twelve game birds representing several
conservation organizations. All were mounted on an unusual driftwood
stand..
Jims awards
have been featured at many of the most recognized events
and have been highlighted at such celebrity events as; The Quail
Unlimited Celebrity Hunt, Louise and Irlene Mandrell
charity sporting clays events.
Over the years these awards
have been used at the NSCA national championships, many state
shoots for sporting clays, trap ,skeet and also the world fitasc, where
team USA exchanges belt buckles as gifts to the other teams members from
around the world they competed against.
